Not really a gangster film, but I wanted to save Goodfellas for - TopicsExpress

Not really a gangster film, but I wanted to save Goodfellas for Martin Scorsese week. Anyways, heat is the story of a cop: Al Pacino, facing off against mobster Robert De Niro. Yea, them. The pair that basically defined the gangster genre are duking it out in the epic 3 hour Michael Mann thriller. Awesome? Yes. Strong performances and deep storylines following domestic breakup, violence, double-crosses and the portrait of a tainted serial killer cram the movie to the core. I doesnt seem overstuffed despite this, however, and achieves that Pulp Fiction kind of pace where the jam packet plot doesnt detract from the immersion or action. Dont forget the long runtime it can stuff it all into. The music is pretty swell, and the screenplay, whilst some lines dont come across as well as they should, is sometimes riveting and pins you to the edge of your seat. Heat includes one of the longest and most brutal gunfights in film and an epic finale with an unfortunately obvious outcome (I guess Scarface trumps Jack father in law Focker) 4 marks out of 5 Mann, this movie sure is great. (Im so sorry for that) Speaking of Scarface... Tomorrows movie takes us on a trip from Cuba to the streets run by a drug lord with a rather insestual obsession and plenty of dope to burn. Beware the cock-a-roaches.
