Not really a rescue, however ....... An breeder/trainer called me and asked if I knew of anyone who would take on a greyhound pup with a broken leg ... *scratched head, wonder who may do that* I picked up the pup, who was to be known as Trinity, expecting to see a pup with a bandaged leg. However, what greeted me was a little (2.5kg) five and a half week old pup hobbling around, not able to put any weight on her left hind leg. She came home on the Saturday, wrapped in a little blanket (first pic) and I took a photo of her when I got her into her crate (second pic, the big lump is the break) and got her to the vet first thing on Monday. Vet suggested the break was three weeks old and the development of muscle, tendon and bone was lacking. The bone had tried to fuse but couldnt. Here came the choices - we could try an orthopedic vet and the pup would face months of pain and discomfort with operations, pins, medications and no guarantees she would be able to walk on her leg or be pain free, and then a few years down the track, having to have the leg amputated anyway due to complications (Greys are renowned to suffer from bone cancer, especially in limbs which had suffered trauma in the past) The other choice was to amputated asap - which we decided (third pic a week or so after op) Trinity was pain free and started to put on weight. She soon grew out of the crates I had and grew into a stunning dog (last pic) She is now 19 months old, still a young dog, who gets around very well. She loved having a run on the track at the Whippet Races, but is now retired from that as she really tries too hard, and the last time she had a run, she pulled a muscle in her back. Trinity is a very outgoing girl who loves the vet, even though her first two visits were filled with pain.
