Not sure I get the point of this video with respect to assuaging our shared and collective fear of death, except that it wont be anything terrible, much less everlastingly terrible. For someone like me, thats kind of a given. Granted, the method of that passing might be terrible, but death itself would indeed be like going to sleep and never waking up, which isnt so bad. I think, however, that this video discounts the evolutionarily ingrained fear that comes with death; that irrational horror against which human logic and human reasoning are powerless. It is from this horror that religion springs, and for a very selfish reason. We, as individuals, have an almost insurmountable time comprehending that we are not important, at least not when compared to the universe as a whole. For most of us, our singular perception of existence is centered around what we can see, hear, taste, smell, and feel. Thus, any scenario of which we are not personally a part, is terrifying. And yet, thats the way it is. Its a hard reality to swallow for most of us, but reality nonetheless. Personally, I am afraid of death. Or more accurately, I dont want to die. But the inescapable truth is that I will, most certainly, die some day, and that will be the end of my personal consciousness. Yet the human perception of the universe will continue on without me, and I will be a part of that universe whether I am aware of it or not. Again, Im not sure that helps me, but I do think its wise to see my minuscule, wondrous, fleeting, amazing, irrelevant, unique life as something not to be squandered... for it is the only part I will ever have in this continuous and remarkable play. reset.me/video/fear-death/
