Not sure about the back story behind this letter to the Globe and Mail, but one thing struck me that I would really like to share. When you say you were one of us, which one of us do you mean? My Canadian identity has not infringed on my Islamic identity – in fact it has made it stronger. Living in Canada has truly allowed me to understand my religion (probably in my own way) as well as respect others, which is truly what Islam is about - integrate values based on societal laws. I would rather live in a diverse community than solely seek to be with my own. Tolerance of diversity is an opportunity that requires one to acquire deep respect for others, an environment thankfully present in Toronto!
