Not sure how long this post will be- on mobile, so forgive both the errors and the blog-like style of this post. Typical thanksgiving week in Korea? Not sure what that would look like, but herere the highlights. Wednesday: chain grocery stores are often closed on Wednesday to help out the local markets. Went to three different stores on my lunch break, all closed. Finding ingredients for cooking is difficult here, meaning I dont cook often. Broke up a domestic squabble outside my university, only to get told off by both the guy and his girlfriend. (Richard could tell a better story about that than me.) he was pushing her around- up against a wall, bodily picking her up, all while she was saying hajima!/stop, so I stepped in. As I walked away, it was her turn to slap him around, literally. After work, I went to the foreign district for shopping, where I found almost everything I need, although it was all slightly different. Crushed corn, not corn meal, as one example. Still havent found dill pickles. Thursday: worked, had a fantastic coffee break with a friend, then went to do some volunteering. Im still a Tennesseean, yall. Ate Deokbokki for my thanksgiving meal (am I still a Tennessean?) then played some thanksgiving games with local kids. Today, Friday: I have the day off, so I did some cooking. My bro David once said that I could dirty every dish in the house just to make an ice cream cone. Yeah. Corn bread salad, corn bread muffins, and sweet potato casserole are what I decided on. Going to a party for thanksgiving at the home of some church friends. Im wearing a hanbok top- traditional Korean thanksgiving wear. Going to a separate party tomorrow, where Ill probably make the same dishes, depending on how well they go over tonight.
