Not sure if it has been posted, sorry if it has been. In my mind, there are 3 transactions (outside of the typical minor league signings for depth) and the Os can still be contenders. 1. Trade Jonathan Schoop and Tim Berry to the Rays for Ben Zobrist. Zobrist can fill two of our weakest spots and with a high WAR - 2B or RF. His OBP is always high and has a 15-20 HR potential. Schoop is a MLB ready player that can immediately step in for the Rays with a much higher ceiling. Berry is just another promising arm for the Rays to control. LHP to boot. 2. Sign Colby Rasmus to a 1 year - $8 mil deal. Yes, he does not seem enticing. But he is solid enough in his defense and has enough pop to play either corner in the OF. Bat him anywhere from 6th to 8th and let him try to hit the warehouse. 3. Sign Emilio Bonafacio to a 1 year - $2 mil deal. Simply as a backup to 2B, 3B, or corner OF. This actually might not even be necessary but hes been known to go on hot offensive streaks and could be the spark plug we need. I know Im dreaming about trading for Zobrist, but I really think the Os should take a crack at it.
