Not sure when to use hot or cold for aches or pains? As a general rule...for overstrains of joints, ligaments, muscles, esp sudden onset injuries e.g twisting, bending, stretching use a cold pack. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and dampens down pain. For end of the day muscle tightness and stiffness use heat. This helps relax muscles and promotes good circulation through them. If in doubt, use cold first and speak to your osteopath for further advice :)
