Not sure why. A few people have asked me to post this as a new post and not a comment. OK, here you go. Feel free to take part I appreciate all feedback negative and positive. I dont want to talk religion, politics, or gun rights. As a country I feel we can do a lot better. My goal is to get as many unwanted guns off the streets as possible. If it reduces gun deaths by any percentage, its worth it. If it stops one police officer from being KILLED in the line of duty, its worth a try. So, I have this idea of starting a new campaign. I will ask for all of your help on tweaking this and adjusting this before we send it out. I got this idea from things Ive seen on TV. The Seattle Police Department holds a gun buyback program at least once a year, where they buy unwanted guns off the street. Police Departments are strapped for cash and money and cannot afford to do this on a regular basis. My plan is to get as many unwanted guns off the streets as possible. This way people wont be selling them at garage sales or on Craigslist or any other places. The whole object of this campaign is to get guns off the streets. So here it is. We want all retailers of guns in this country to start gun by back program. No ID, no questions asked. That is how the police departments do it. 1. Most will be old guns, that can be only melted down for scrap metal. 2. Some guns will be re-sellable and can be checked out to make sure theyre not stolen, clean and set up to be sold as used. 2a. If not stolen they can be resold at a reasonable price. Even poor people have a right to buy a gun for hunting or for protection at a reasonable price. 2b. If the serial number does pop-up that its a stolen gun. The retailer can contact authorities to contact the person who owns the gun. At this point the original owner has an option. One, pay a fee for what the retailer paid for the guns with a small increase or have that fee deducted from the price of a gun safe, to make sure these guns do not in up on the street again. Keep in mind his home owner insurance has probably already compensated them for the loss of the guns. My whole goal with this is to get as many guns that are on wanted off the streets. Mark Smith gave me a great idea also, lets involve churches and let churches take involvement in doing a gun buyback program. I also challenge Rob Ralph ( who I feel is smarter than me) to take these ideas and rewrite them, in a simple form that is easy to follow. Once we have a final draft we can share this on Facebook and see how far it goes nationwide. Enough is enough
