Not that I know so much but I remember just enough to be dangerous!! I did some research through my books today and decided since there has been so much interest in Main Street fires I would teach MAIN STREET FIRES 101 (Brief as possible.) 1. 1862--A large part of town including the courthouse. Fire set by Rebels (according to the Mt. Sterling Advocate) Reference Col J.T.Hazelrigg address of 1876. 2. 1911--Six building burned--Day & Davis, D.R. Keeton, Henry Coles, Barber Shop, Carter building, & Methodist Church. All north end of Main. (LVC). 3. 1932--Three buildings burned--Blair, Bellamy, Caskey; Post Office and rental house containing Stanley Ryan used clothing, Ode Elam apartment and Paul/Lula Henson apartment. 4. 1970--Three buildings burned: C.C. Elam, Elam Utility, and Rex Theater 5. 1991 Peyons Drug, Village Store, His & Her Shop, and Town Cinema. Just a note: Wasnt it a miracle that with all the electric lines down, and gas lines ruptured that there wasnt a huge fire after the tornado.
