Not that my circumstantial experience should be all you consider, - TopicsExpress

Not that my circumstantial experience should be all you consider, but I just wanted to say to all the SEA Jammers out there who are worried about what they are seeing in the media, I just got back from a week in Bangkok, and will have two more 4-day trips before SEA Jam, and have zero concern. So far, from my experience living on Sukhumvit Soi 22, a long-block away from a central hub of protest at Asoke, the protests are nothing that should make you even consider skipping this year. These are similar to Occupy Wallstreet crowds with music, dancing (not Lindy), picnicking, and lots and lots of flea marketing. These are middle aged, middle class “mobs” who would rather shop at Central World than burn it. As a farang traveling by myself, I felt completely safe walking through the area during the day and night. Now that I am outside of Thailand, the international press seems to be really sensationalizing things, and as far as I am concerned, any State of Emergency is more part of a PR strategy for the PM than it is for safety. That said, if you are going to pull out, please let the organizers know early so that your spot can be opened up for one of the followers on the waiting list. Oh, and leads too, I suppose.
