Not to be argumentative.. But If the assumption is: The growth of Fairmont has been stifled, By an Intrusive State Government Better checks the Facts on Just How Much funding The City Took from that oppressive Power.. It is a staggering amount and even with that help, and County assistance ( Funded Palatine Park) a State Contract for parking commitment in the wasteland garage.... The Problem is the Oppressive Laws of the State? It is an anathema to any logical thought or reasonable assumption That Fairmont Problem was Lack of Power to govern? If anyone read The City application: The assertion That somehow they would preserve the Old Fairmont Brewing Building.. ( If any of us put it on an application It would be Fraud) They Ordered The Building to be demolished to Property Owners or they would face fines.. Then The Move to Eliminate Public Notice & Auction for Certain Public City Properties to be sold ....beacons of Honesty.. That they are-- There will be No shady valuations or crony transfers happening there..- Some amazingly confuse growth with Public work.. Growth in the area will be by the effort of Local Business paying into the Tax Base and employing our residents...For That We Need Far Less City Government... Not More! They are clearly Not pro Business and have demonstrated a lack of acumen in their ability to: Manage and attract a business(es) to the area.. If They truly wanted more power and authority and autonomy: Demonstrate First ;That the power currently held ( which is indeed immense) Has Been Put to Productive Usage.. That has Not happened.. In fact The exodus of Business from DT and Fairmont city limits seems like it is deliberate.. You could Not do so well and completely have every one pack up and leave If you tried. New council Coming In.. Id like to see them succeed .. Give Them New city Management.. all the way through. Seems to me. This Home rule thing .. needs be classed with the pay raise requirement.. That current officials cannot vote a raise in pay That they will enjoy the benefit. So, If the Intent is bring Government closer to the people... Lets do that.. But do not hand council a Government That does not work, or do its jobs successfully....New all the way through! Voting in New Council is a half Measure.. Want change It needs a Full measure! To Illustrate and support that position.. Just do a rental Unit check That had to pass code enforcement to have an ROC in the first place. Start On Oliver Avenue and go through That Neighborhood.. Continue through Jackson addition, View avenue....about anywhere!! Check some Public parks for their compliance...answer will be clear.
