Not too long ago someone mentioned battling the clean-up of worms. I think its an important part of rug hooking and I encourage all to take the time to sort through each project and create an organized worm stash. f you like to read thorough descriptions of how to organize and store wool, I recommend Bea Brock’s book Scrappy Hooked Rugs: Making the Most of the Wool in Your Stash. Less patience? Here’s how my system helped me get Sally Kallin’s Seeing Stars, Too hooked. I organize by color in plastic shoe boxes. I put together worms of like color/size in a sheaf tied with a worm or bit of selvedge. Fine cut worms go in a zip-lox bag in that color shoebox. One-of-a-kind worms are tied into a sheaf. I used worms of differing widths and color in the penny rug border. I moved the color around the border by shifting from some browns to dark teals to lighter values of blue to warmer oranges and pinks and to ballet-studio pinks. Im sewing in cording now, and as I discover holidays, I will hook in worms to create even more zest in the rug.
