Not too long to read: Im seeing a lot of Remember to thank a vet! Independence Day posts. Its not Veterans Day. Its not V-Day. Its not Memorial Day. The 4th isnt an anniversary of a war victory. Its not a day to remember war, but to remember an idea; self-governance better ensures personal liberty than an intrusive, far-reaching government. The Declaration of Independence was signed by statesmen, political theorists and politicians who understood that concept. Say thanks to those who fight over-reaching government and defend personal liberties in the town halls and in the Marketplace of Ideas. Thank godly political leaders, constitutionalist legislators and constructionist judges. And yes, thank veterans, too. But remember to thank those who fight with pens and oratory, who are the philosophical posterity of our revolutionary founders.
