Not too many things are as devastating as being betrayed...but one of them is to realize that you betrayed another. It happens even when you dont mean to or you never thought you would or could betray someone you care deeply about. I heard two stories about betrayal today. One was in a intimate relationship and the other in a business relationship. In both cases the one who did the betraying is suffering greatly. Not only is the relationship shattered but you have no one to blame but yourself and thats hard to swallow. I have been on both the giving and the receiving ends of betrayal and the lesson I learned was forgiveness. Forgive those who sin against you and allow yourself forgiveness even if you really mess up. Even Peter betrayed Jesus whom he loved deeply. Ones character is not judged based on their mistakes, rather on what they do after they stumbled. Grace and Mercy are two of the most beautiful concepts. Grace is allowing someone to stumble without holding it over them and Mercy is letting them off free from penalty even when they deserve every part of that penalty. This is something to practice with others so in the end you can free yourself from the bondage of not being forgiven...even if its by yourself.
