Not unlike “V”, we Americans are trading our cherished - TopicsExpress

Not unlike “V”, we Americans are trading our cherished freedoms and liberty in for an empty or false sense of security. When Sept. 11 happened, we reacted with fear, rather than resolve. The Patriot Act,” was quickly passed, which gave the government carte blanche to violate our Bill of Rights. Anyone and everyone that disagreed with this act was a traitor, a terrorist and/or unpatriotic. (We held/hold people in prison without respecting habeas corpus (i.e. Guantanamo Bay)). Wake-up sheeple; It is time to end this madness! If you haven’t already seen “V for Vendetta,” please do yourself a favor and watch it. If you are like me and watching it again, watch it with a critical eye, and remember two important things: Liberty is much easier lost than recovered. Displacing freedom by appealing to security concerns is a ruler’s or government’s oldest trick to ensure conformance. I leave you with a quote from the movie, which you can also hear in the clip. Where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Whos to blame? Well, certainly there are those more responsible than others ... but ... truth be told, if youre looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldnt be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now-High Chancellor ... He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent.
