Nota Ramadan: Hari Keenam Belas. Piala Dunia baru saja melabuhkan tirai. Lailatul Qadr baru nak bermula. Pagi ni, jalan agak lengang seketika. Ramai yang demam bola agaknya. Bulan Ramadhan, insan memang kurang bercakap. Masing-masing dalam dunia mereka sendiri. Namun, fenomena baru, masing-masing masih sibuk texting dan whatsapp, memanjangkan sesuatu yang melarik perhatian, x tahu mana sumbernya. Kita kekadang keliru maklumat. Hitherto, in this decade, we are more connected than ever before, more able to spread our ideas and beliefs, our anger and fears. As we exercise the right to advocate our views, and as we animate vast echo chamber and reach those both serious and delirious, connected and unhinged. Yet, in spite of this world-wide system of linkages, there is, at this very moment, a general feeling that communication is breaking down everywhere, on an unparalleled scale. The newest and the-state-of-art technology savvy computer and ultra smart phone can merely compound, at speed, the oldest problem in the relations between human beings, and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem, of what to say and how to say it. What’s not so great is that all this technology is destroying our social skills. Not only have we given up on writing letters to each other, we barely even talk to each other. People have become so accustomed to texting that they’re actually startled when the phone rings. It’s like we suddenly all have Bad phones. If it rings, there must be danger. Semoga Ramadan mengembali semula hubungan, bukan sekadar text symbol atau perkataan.
