Note to fellow artists: I think mashups and combinations are an important part of the creative process, that being said, I see too many of my fellow artists simply stopping at that stage. In a week, your Lost characters as Batman villains series will be entirely forgotten simply because of what it is, a cheap diversion. Dont settle for throwing things you didnt make together and presenting it as such to an audience that will lap it up then forget it (they were fans of the preexisting material, they are not fans of you). Steampunk Spongebob. Disney Princess Superheroes. Stop. Make those combinations in the planning phase, then take the strongest elements and MAKE YOUR OWN CREATION. This is a solid part of the creative process yet too many people just stop at the first stage. Everything is a combination of something else and thats ok, just DEVELOP your idea instead of just presenting a combination. I get that its the easy road to bank on a fanbase you didnt create. But you will never BE the thing the fanbase adores, just a twig on a limb of a branch. So go forth, make those silly combinations...just dont stop there. Develop your mashups into something new and build your own fanbase. If you are successful, youll have much more security and creative freedom than a leech. *endrant*
