Note to self - dont take leave as the first week back is crazy! The last few days have been manic, but mostly a lot of fun and its time to update those of you who like to know what I get up to on your behalf. Tue morning I was back in the office catching up after 2 weeks off but had to take the afternoon off to attend the funeral of my uncle, a former Wg Cdr Dental Off who inspired me to join the RAF over 30 years ago. May he RIP. Wed was equally busy as I caught up with key players, including a chat with AMP and the Comdts WO, prepared briefs for mtgs that are coming up and tried to control the diary, which now sees me booked for almost every weekend between now and Xmas. That afternoon I took my annual fitness test and managed to get into the light blue zone which means I dont have to do any sit-ups or press-ups for a year -yay! I wont tell you how well my super fit (much younger!), ex PEd Staff Off did! That evening I popped over to Beckingham to join some of the Trent Wg staff and cadets on their annual camp. I had a great time touring the various activities but lived to regret joining in with the Obstacle Course - I am black and blue and could hardly move my arms for the next 2 days - monkey bars and 6 walls are definitely to be avoided! Thursday saw me meeting with a NED who advises the Air Force Board and we had interesting discussions about our emerging plans for the ATCs 75th anniversary and the RAFs Centenary - we will be doing lots for both! I then went over to Swynnerton to join Staffs Wg staff and cadets and had another really enjoyable few hours learning all about their camp experience and even challenging the OC Wg to a few activities. Friday was the deadline for our 6-monthly submission of H&A so I was busy finalising our paperwork to hopefully get some formal recognition for some of our many outstanding staff and volunteers. Always a humbling experience reading the citations and realising how much so many of you do to deliver the cadet experience. I also met with former Comdt, Air Cdre Stewart, who is helping us with a tri-Service Cadet Study, and I had a good chat with the AOC to bring him up to date on life at HQAC. Also met with OC 2 FTS and, whilst work continues to recover the glider fleets, there is some good news on the aviation front, including some gliding scholarships via the RAFGSA and recent news from 2 Gp that they will offer up some AEF in the Voyager - watch for details via your flying and gliding staff. To round off the day, I went to the CE RAC to meet cadets and staff from Thames Valley Wg on their camp and we had an impromptu Q&A session, the inevitable selfies, and a cuppa and cake with the staff. Today, I head off to Rhyl to pre-position for the Air Show tomorrow and I look forward to meeting cadets and staff from N Wales, as well as an evening at Prestatyn Sqn on Sunday evening. Fingers crossed for nice weather. Thats it for this week but keep an eye out for my weekly updates as there are some exciting times ahead!
