Note to self: Not all nerds are the same kinds of nerd, or even your kind of nerd. This is a tremendously important distinction to keep in mind when hitting the release valve on your geekly snark. Also, Self, the failure mode of joyous snark is “overbearing douchebag.” Know when to stop digging yourself in deeper. To wit, Self, in the future, when using the rejoinder, “All the grace and charm of an incontinent Sleestak,” to describe to a second party the shortcoming of a third party, first make certain your oh-so-erroneously presumed “appreciative” audience both knows what the word “incontinent” means and what a Sleestak is. Nothing deflates quite like expecting sardonic chuckles and instead being greeted with a pole-axed expression of befuddlement. Further, restrain the impulse (Really. Just… *really*... ) to attempt to explain how it’s okay the now-noticeably-unappreciative audience failed to grasp the reference by sliding into a witticism that begins, “The taxonomy of geekdom is both exhaustive and exhausting…” unless you are absolutely certain said audience knows more “tax-“ words than just the ones dealing with the IRS or stuffed dead animals, both of which are apparently triggers for elements of said audience’s colorful repertoire of pathologies of which you were previously unaware and to which you neither wanted exposure to nor will ever quite have access to enough brain bleach to now obliterate. In short, Self, the SAT was a very long time ago and not everyone views your Verbal score as a badge of honor; indulging your love of the English language sometimes carries an unadvertised price.
