Notes & News from SCASL Book Awards Chair, Kitt Lisenby Do you love to read? Are you a member of SCASL? Well, I have the perfect opportunity for you to be a part of one of the most visual and well-known book award programs in the USA! If you have always wanted to be a member of one of the book award committees but have never taken the time to fill out an application, this is the time to do so! · Go to surveymonkey/s/scbaapplication · Meetings for the 2014-15 committees are: May 3rd, August 9th, October 4th, and December 6th. · You must be a member of SCASL to participate, and you must attend the meetings at a Columbia area school. · You will receive a preliminary copy of the consideration list when you receive notification of your appointment so that you can begin reading. Being a member of a book award committee is a lot of work, but it is so rewarding. You are responsible for choosing the books that many schools in SC consider the best of the best! That’s why we need you to apply to be part of this program. Do you have a student or a teacher in your school who loves to read? Then, let them know about the book award program. We need teachers in all areas and students at all ages to be members of these committees. Teachers are required to join SCASL at a reduced rate of $15, and students are given honorary membership. Please get the work out to those you feel would be an asset to our committee, and take the time to apply yourself! A couple of other items: The final day to vote on this year’s awards will be Friday, February 28, 2014. I will let you know when those materials are available online.
