Notes: Tone Painting is a musical trick used by song writers - TopicsExpress

Notes: Tone Painting is a musical trick used by song writers (Mozart, Beethoven and Harry Chapin used it too) to support the lyrics of the song using the melody. Thus, CLIMB EVRY MOUNTAINs first words are set to a melody that moves upward, supporting the lyric. In Psalm 93, I used an ostinato rhythm to illustrate that David was riding a camel alongside the sea while composing these words. In the first section, the poetic theme is rising (the first word Nasu means rising). Thus, the chords I chose under the melody convey the feeling of rising. E major to A miinor to A diminished. The tonic is E major, symbolizing G-d. In the second section I move away from the original key to illustrate the sea waves crashing (the only time the rhythm breaks). Then, I move the song back to home base (E major) for the last line about G-d. I hope David would approve.
