Notes from Alex: Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth Matthew 5. 4 Meekness is a quality difficult to grasp in practice, but not as challenging to understand. Meekness is perhaps best defined as, not feeling compelled to defend oneself. When people bring an accusation against you, meekness refuses to attempt to defend itself. When I am guilty, meekness will readily admit to the accusation , with no attempt to justify wrong doing. We get closest to this when we are in prayer to our Father. We speak to God, with no attempt to justify our wrong doings . And furthermore, we recognize that we are nothing worthy of defending . So we are happy to admit that we have absolutely, positively no reason to defend our own selves. I read a wise man who wrote on this subject, saying that it is the height of hypocrisy, for Christians to be absolutely meek before the presence of God, admitting before God that they are not defendable, for those same people to rise from prayer and attempt to defend themselves before another when right accusations are made concerning their guilt. The idea of meekness should be coupled with Jesuss teachings, blessed are those who mourn. God bless bless those today who are seeking to walk in the teachings of our King.
