Notes from Alex: It is finished. Jn 19.30 Jesus was not a quitter, but one who was willing to carry out the will of God, even though it meant that he would die. I hear people often say words that are similar....I am finished, but they dont mean these words like Jesus meant them. They mean to suggest that they are through, and that they have had enough, and they are not willing to put any more effort into something. It is used to represent the end, but not necessarily completion. Big difference. I am finished with this relationship with my mother. I am finished with dealing with his attitude. I am done with these kids. I am finished with my marriage. I am finished with this church. So many times what is conveyed is disgust and discouragement. People say this bc they are frustrated by their circumstances and challenged by their fears. It is seen as a way out, a path to escaping the difficulty. Jesus showed the example of what God desires from us. He finished the work that was given to him. Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? Father save me from this hour? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name! (Jn 12.27-28). Lets be honest with God about our frequent inability to finish, and strive to follow the way of our Lord, who brought glory to God by completing what God had given him to do (Jn 17.4). I have foolishly allowed my frustration to overtake and, often, it led me to be satisfied with leaving something undone. I want to reach the end and say, Ihave fought the good fight, I have finished thr race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but to all those who have longed for his appearing (2 Tim 4.7-8). Let us learn from Christ. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart (Heb 12.3).
