Notes from Alex: Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling. It is written, he said to them, My house will be a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers (Luke 19.45-46). There is always potential for people to have, or be given, something, and it be turned into something it is not supposed to be. Any duration of time can create this, as well as being emotionally connected to that something. We are emotionally connected to the church, and it has duration of time. If those, having the temple, were subject to making it into something it was not supposed to be, then we have that same potential. What was the answer from the Lord as to how such things should be addressed? 1. Courage. The Lord had courage to face the issues that existed. He did not shy away from shedding light on corruption from concept. He drove out those who represented corruption from concept. We should be no less courageous in our behavior. 2. Courage was based on what God wanted. To validate this change he was calling for, Jesus appealed to the written, revealed word of his Father. If there is a clear corruption from concept, then the word of God will bring this matter to light, and it must be presented when addressing the matter. These two important principles exhibit wisdom in how to deal with corruption of concept. If God has revealed what he wants, and it is corrupted by man, then someone courageous is needed to supply the hearers with the evidence from the word of God as to what needs to be changed. Jesus said that Gods house will be a place of prayer. By saying this, he identifies what the will of God rightly is. When he says that they had made it den of robbers, he was identifying what they had allowed it to become. Both of these are needed if corruption from concept will be properly addressed. Dont pretend as if you are absolutely unaware of any instances where corruption from concept has happened. Jesus addressed such. Will you?
