Notes from the Pearl River Development Club, Sept 5, 2013: I did - TopicsExpress

Notes from the Pearl River Development Club, Sept 5, 2013: I did bring up the subject of getting an attendance record for Pearl River Council Representatives. It was not well received from the three Council, specifically from Stella Willis. The Development Club is organized under the tribal constitution and it is the DUTY of the Tribal Council representative to appear before the community and report "Regularly ALL THE ACTIONS AND DECISION OF THE TRIBAL COUNCIL" Janice Jimmie pounced on the word "regularly" as meaning every three months or two according to the schedule of the Tribal Council member. This is not logical, the Club has set a regular meeting to be monthly, so it can expect the community representatives to attend it monthly or at the very least submit a written report if they should be sick or on travel. If a tribal council is to report all the actions and decision of the tribal council then what is Ms Jimmie proposing that we hear about these actions and decisions months after its effect?? or if the community members need to have council address their problems or answer their questions, they should wait till the council is good and ready to come before them?? We are paying a salary to these representatives for administering the duties of the constitution, that includes attending the Development Club Meeting. Councilman Cyrus Ben retorted to me, that "You have not been at all the meetings either". The difference is that I voluntarily attend as all the other community members, while a Council member has an obligation to attend. If I was a community representative, I would consider attending the Development Club meetings every month as being part of my job. This motion to keep an official attendance record will be presented to the community next month. This is a small step but the beginning of holding our elected officials accountable. Think about it or sleep on it and come join the discussion next month.
