Nothing Without Love (Part 2) 1 Corinthians 13:2 “If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing” 1 Corinthians 13:2 (NLT). Paul could have said, “If I have every power in heaven and on earth, but I don’t have love, I’m nothing;” but instead he lays out some of the things that we as Christians hold as important (and rightfully so since they are some of the gifts of the Spirit—prophecy, knowledge, and faith). In this chapter, Paul is talking to us Christians who have our priorities straight (or that’s what we so often believe). He makes it very plain that being an inspired, impassioned speaker who speaks eloquently about God and who has “mountain-moving” faith, just isn’t enough; in fact, without love, it amounts to nothing. In this verse, Paul addresses two gifts that are very close to my heart: Knowledge and faith. He points to the gift of knowledge (specifically knowledge about God) and says, “If you don’t have love, you don’t know God at all, because without love there is no knowledge of God—because God is love.” Then he addresses faith in a similar manner saying, “Faith without love is meaningless.” WOW! Knowledge of God and faith in God are nothing without the love of God! That means that I could know everything there is to know about God and have faith enough to move mountains, but if I don’t have love (real, true, genuine, godly love) it’s all a waste of time and energy—it’s nothing! ~Randy & Trena Reed
