Nothing is what it Seems A popular Dutch reality TV game show is Wie is de Mol? (Who is the Mole?). Players in Wie is de Mol? must work together to complete various physical and mental challenges to build up a significant cash prize for the winner. One of them, however, is the mole, a double agent hired by the producers to sabotage the efforts of the group. The mole must be careful to avoid drawing too much suspicion to himself or herself. A slogan of the show is: Nothing is what it seems. This slogan is fully applicable to the Christian life, where we are challenged to look at the eternal and invisible, instead to look at the temporary and visible (2 Cor. 4:18). Jesus said: Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment (John 7:24). Paul commands us to see thing from His perspective (Col 3:2 MSG). Appearances are too narrow to show our true identity. Appearances cannot show the immensity of the image and likeness in which God created us. The winner of Wie is de Mol? is the one who sees through the appearances the best. A believer doesnt ask the question Who is the mole? but Who am I? I am who I am in my spirit, where Christ lives as me and where Christ fills the picture. Once we are fixed in our awareness of replacement and union, appearances disappear. Christ is incompatible with illusions. The best way to understand spiritual growth is to look upon it as the increase of spiritual awareness. Therefore our obedience is the obedience of faith, not the obedience of performance.
