Nothing like Dilma Rousseff’s re-election last weekend to remind - TopicsExpress

Nothing like Dilma Rousseff’s re-election last weekend to remind us of the local incumbent’s landslide three Octobers ago and its immediate sequel in the currency curbs whose third anniversary was marked this week. Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s 54 percent trumps Dilma’s 51.64 percent when she was the only option bar one, never mind her 41 percent in the first round. But Central Bank reserves are another story — whereas Argentina’s have dwindled from over 47 billion dollars three years ago (already below their peak) to some 27 billion, Brazil’s are 370-plus billion despite a less than brilliant economic track record in recent years. - By Michael Soltys / Senior Editor / Economic Outlook
