Nothing to do with GP, but here is just one more sad thing that shows we have no respect for our past...In 1992 the country of Spain built three small ships. exact replicas of Columbuss three ships... After these three ships sailed across the Atlantic and finished their tour celebrating the 500 year anniversary of Columbus voyages, These three ships were put up for auction...Corpus Christi Texas won that bid...A few years back my wife and I took our two grandkids from Conroe to Corpus to visit the Lady Lex. Then I seen the Nina replica setting in the water at the docks... I was really disappointed to see No Trespassing signs near it, and I also noticed several pumps running, pumping the water out of the hull??? Then some place we stopped we were told that the Santa Maria and the Pinta were at the museum... Setting out back was the Pinta and the Santa Maia and t was like OMG!!! Pieces of plywood nailed to the sides of the Santa Maria, Tours on board her had been cancelled as the deck was falling in...The Pinta had a tour guide, dressed like a sailor of that era, telling about how the crews lived, ate, and survived those long voyages.. The highlight of that tour was when this one young blond headed girl, maybe 16 years old asked Wheres the restrooms on this ship??? That young tour guide didnt miss a beat.. He told her see these ropes here?? Well the sailors on board pulled their pants down hung out over the side of the ship and did their business!!. Him being a funny guy, also mentioned that they also got a bath at the same time!!! Talk about red faced little girl??? That was the high light of our tour.. Now those two ships are being demolished hauled off to the junk yard!!!!.. The City of Corpus can keep the statues of Selena nice and pretty but allowed a treasure to turn into trash!! History at its best, now gone...I found this video, and it may have comments with it since it was a Facebook post, but I tend to agree with the people that live there about in particular how since about 1970 when I believes the Navy base shut down, Corpus has also deteriorate too.. The Naval base there is not anything like it was when I was stationed there for a short period, Thousands of Civilian workers that base, two of the other bases used for training purposes would be shut down, and here again thousands lost their jobs...A community named Flower Bluff would be home to not only the civilian workers but also married military personnel...Its just an all but abandoned area, more or less from our last visit a Barrios.!!!! But its crying shame that the City Fathers of Corpus decide to trash out these once beautiful ships..If this video doesnt work, just type in Corpus Christi and demolition of Santa Maria??? Sad so very Sad... https://facebook/photo.php?v=10152664588291133
