Notice how his feet change position and always land directly beneath his head while his head stays relatively still in the same position. This is biomechanically efficient. Stand up on one foot and try NOT to align your head over your foot - you can do it laterally to the outside of your foot, but it takes more effort and your spine has to bend. Its much harder to align your head to the inside of one foot as youll find out. Aligning your head either forward or back of your one foot takes more effort too.
