Notice to MEPA business members on a new tax exemption Magnolia Electric Power Association Manager of Administrative Services Tony Nettles is announcing a new sales tax exemption on the sale of electric power to certain businesses. “The Mississippi Department of Revenue has a notice on their website (dor.ms.gov) regarding the exemption from sales tax on the sale of electric power, and other fuel, to certain types of businesses,” Nettles said. “This is a result of House Bill 844 of the 2013 Regular Session amending Miss. Code Ann. Section 27-65-107. This exemption will apply to qualified sales billed from and after July 1, 2014.” “We are asking that all businesses please refer to this website to see if your business may qualify for the sales tax exemption on electricity sales,” he said. “To take advantage of this, the business must fill out the proper affidavit and mail it to Magnolia Electric Power Association.”
