Notice to all Winthrop Ferry riders: The 2013 Winthrop Ferry has been taken out of service, effective Wednesday, July 24, until further notice, to undertake a mechanical repair to the vessel. On Tuesday, July 23, as the Winthrop Ferry began its final trip of the night back to Winthrop, the boat suffered a mechanical problem with the transmission shaft. Repair of the vessel is expected to take approximately one week, and service during this time will be interrupted. The Town will announce resumption of service, as soon as the repair has been confirmed by the vessel owner and operator Tim Gover. We apologize for the inconvenience and will make every effort to resume service in the shortest amount of time feasible. All commuter riders and day trippers are urged to check the town of Winthrop website, town.winthrop.ma.us for updates on the boat’s status and return of service.
