Notice to our Save A Lab Community: There have been some - TopicsExpress

Notice to our Save A Lab Community: There have been some changes within the SAL organization that need to be publicly explained due to the nature of the situation, as well as numerous supporters asking about the well being of many of our SAL dogs, more precisely , some of our Mamma dogs & their litters. Our fans & supporters, as well as our fosters, are what keep our rescue going, & we cannot do it without the support of all of you – so we want to be as transparent as possible, without getting into needless details. Two of our very prominent fosters have been asked to leave our organization after a series of incidents involving them. Repeated poor decisions, that went against SAL policies, being made by these fosters, independent of SAL directors beliefs or or permission, & in direct defiance of our direction. These decisions jeopardized the well being of our SAL dogs, as we do not take that lightly. The situation with Journey was just one of the numerous issues involved. Many people have expressed concern all week, privately & publicly, about her & the status of her puppies. Unfortunately, neither Journey nor her pups are now part of SAL. We were told on Wednesday eve, by her foster, that we had no say as to what decisions were to be about Journey or her pups, because she was “not a SAL dog”. This foster informed us since she had found her as a stray, she had not filled out an owner surrender form to turn her over to SAL, even though we had verbally accepted her into SAL a week prior, accepted responsibility for any potential or future vet bills for her & her pups, & allowed collections for her & her litter on our sites, just as we do for all our litters. We are sorry to report we don’t know at this point, the status of Journey or her pups, except that we are told by an outside source that one pup did pass away … which of course, breaks our hearts. We provided a wealth of outside professional advice (by knowledgeable breeders & reproductive veterinarians) & support to these fosters when Journey would not nurse her pups, but the fosters refused to follow the advice, & chose to move Journey 2 hours from her puppies, within 24 hours of their birth. This was the last straw in the series of issues that brought the SAL Directors to the decision to break off working with these fosters. We do appreciate all the dogs saved together in Alabama, in the past , with these fosters & are grateful for that, & for the dogs that have wonderful homes. But there comes a time to move on. We have made some very good, responsible other contacts with fosters in Alabama & we will certainly continue our quest in Alabama to save the dogs in that state, as well as other states, who so desperately need our help. We want you all to know that the donations that were sent for our Mammas & litters did come with the dogs, all of whom have been removed from the fosters homes, as of today. But we did choose to leave any donations of formula, supplements, & probiotics, that were sent for Journeys litter, in hopes that it will assist in their well being & success. Thank you, Save A Lab Directors - Christy Williard, Rebecca Clark, Kim O’Connor, & Shoshana Greenland
