Noticing that the capitalist mindset permiates even my generosity/gratitude based profession of busking... I found myself quite tempted yesterday to take advantage of black friday shoppers by playing Christmas music in a red sweater (but ended up staying home).... I am still debating the extent to which I think it is ethically permissible for me to play Christmas music on the streets.... am I totally buying into a holiday that I think is 1) outdated in its original purpose, and 2) completely commerialized beyond recognition anyway? I still appreciate Christmas music in a nostalgic way, as I recognise that many people do, and on that level we can connect and I could honestly share Christmas music with people on that shallow level of nostalgia.... but can I do that without compromising the integrity of the values I intend to project through my music? Mreh... interesting.
