Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies will step up his bid to sign - TopicsExpress

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies will step up his bid to sign Newcastle United midfielder Gabriel Obertan on loan this week. Davies wanted to sign the Frenchman on deadline day but the deal never happened. The move comes after Forest were forced to admit defeat in their attempts to sign Wolves winger Bakary Sako and Middlesbrough’s Grant Leadbitter Davies wanted to sign both players but neither club would sell. The Forest boss is also in the running to take Chelsea starlet Nathaniel Chalobah on loan. But Davies’s interest in Obertan is gathering pace. Former Manchester United midfielder Obertan, 24, is not thought to be in boss Alan Pardew’s plans this season. With Forest on fire in the Championship at the moment, Davies is exploring all avenues. He has the backing of the club’s Kuwaiti owners who have targeted promotion to the Premier League. And any deal to bring Obertan to the City Ground on loan could result in a permanent deal in January as the player as one year left on his Newcastle contract.
