Notts Writing Group Newsletter Monday 1 July 2013 Hello, fellow scribes At the Group this week:- Attendees this week were: Mac, Nicky, Cheryll, Sarah, Rhoda, Trev, David T, Jeanette, Lesley Welcome back, Cheryll, who hasn’t been able to come for a while. Nice to see you back, we’ve missed you! Apologies were received from: Lyn, Bob, Kirsty and Steve. The group was led by Lesley. There were no writing exercises this week, as we had set this date for first readings of stories intended for the new book, on the theme of ‘change’ or ‘transition’. The following stories were read:- Sarah: “Red Trouser Day” Rhoda: “Carmen” Trev: came with two ideas, so read an extract from each, “Biker Boy” and an as yet untitled piece. Jeanette: “29 April” Lesley: “Road to Damascus” Mac: “Jimmy” Nicola: read two pieces, a story “New Beginning” and a short poem “Bumblefly” Cheryll: “Transient Affair” David: “Heaven Indeed” In Bob’s absence, Lesley read from his story “I was the Walrus”. Those stories I have received are attached to the email so that everyone can read them. At this stage, we aren’t looking for in-depth feedback/critique, that will come later, but any feedback on first impressions would be welcome. Anyone who wasn’t able to attend, but wants to contribute to the book, please send your first drafts to me, so that I can distribute them to the group. Remember, at this stage, nothing is set in stone (even sandstone!). This month’s deadline was just to make sure we were all thinking seriously about the book and starting to put ideas together. News Lesley, David and Nicky attended the “Speech Therapy” night at Hotel Deux on Thursday 27 June. Just a reminder that the next ‘Critical Feedback’ session is on 22 July, so if you haven’t already done so, get your stories sent to your partner as soon as possible, please. Next Week The next meeting is on Monday 8 April at 6.30. This session will be lead by Trev. I’ve had an email from Ian, who is hoping to join us for the first time. Look forward to seeing you there. All the best Lesley
