Nov. 10 - Negotiation in Bhubaneshwar and trip to Paradip Submitted by frank on Sat, 11/10/2012 - 6:53pm in India 6th day, Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 In the morning after a quiet night in Bhubaneshwar we meet Venu, our Indian „manager“. He has arrived at 3.30am by train and rejoices at seeing Alexandra and Christian again. Ingrid and Frank are as well welcomed very heartily and embraced. Venu is a great support for our work since he knows all the leprosy colonies in India and visits them regularly. He is at the same time organizer, translator, developer of ideas and supporter – a real manager... Furthermore, it is of great advantage for our work as we can use the existing organizational and staffing structure of the leprosy colonies also for our other projects such as the construction of the pipeline for the four villages affected by leprosy... After breakfast, Alexandra and Venu establish with strong pressure the travel details for the next stations of our journey. Since Diwali, the festival of lights is just around the corner it is important to already plan the train rides and to buy the tickets. Due to the long distances and the fact that we have to be back in Delhi on Nov. 28 due to the return journey of Christian and Ingrid, it is difficult to combine the numerous stopovers of our projects, but we will try. After long discussions with the travel agency next to the hotel the best solution is found both regarding travel costs and travel times. Now we will tackle one of the most important items of our journey – negotiating the water pump and the water filter for the 1km long water pipe. For this we have chosen Bhubaneshwar, the capital of Orissa, as first station of our journey. Only here there is the possibility to order such a pump. After lunch we continue with Venu to the company which is to construct the pump especially suited for the conditions on site. The Indian hydraulic engineer who gives free of charge support for the implementation of the project has already defined the necessary specifications. Part 2 will follow tomorrow morning...
