Nov 10: 162.5 lbs. 80 pushups. 52 days to go. Yesterday the certified copy of my birth certificate arrived in the mail. Pieces of trivia: the Rhode Island official who typed up the document back when I was born entered my dads name as Frank Mary Floryan. There was then an attempt to rub a pencil over the ary of Mary and insert a dot after the M. However, the modern copy machine sees right through that attempt at pencil correction. They also spelled my moms maiden name wrong, but didnt correct that. At least all of the information about me is correct. I watched ESPNs broadcast of last summers World Series of Poker runnup to the final table. Then I read my book Catastrophe 1914. Im through the section about the run-up to the world war. The author, Max Hastings, concludes from the historic evidence, as have some other historians, that the war happened primarily because certain German leaders wanted it to happen, and that was because they judged that the war was eventually inevitable and the pace of the Russian armament and infrastructure development programs would put Germany at a disadvantage by 1916, so they decided to have the war with Russia while Germany still had an advantage. They naively thought that their war machine could crush France quickly, as it had in 1870, and that Great Britain was irrelevant in a quick European land war. America didnt factor at all into their strategic thinking.
