Nov 12, 2014 Driving through Northern Syria is no easy task. As we go deeper into the Turkish borders, we reach a rural area that has become the frontline between ISIL militants and the Syrian army. As we go farther and farther away from the city of Qamishli on the Syrian-Turkish border, we have to consider much stronger security measures. The villages we travel though are the ones that the Syrian army captured from ISIL in the past two months. ISIL’s recent gains pose new threats to the city. The Syrian military managed to push ISIL 22 kilometers away from Qamishli; a range that is sufficient to prevent the Takfiri militants from using their newly acquired arsenal. “We are standing on the frontline between the Syrian army and the ISIL , on this frontline the Syrian army has prepared armor piercing missiles in addition to heavy machineguns to rebel any attack by isil . just two months ago this village along with many others was ISIL territory a recent military operation swept through the area and regained control for the Syrian army.” In this advance post, the Russian made anti armored missiles are waiting for any infiltration attempt.Villages like Rukaya and Atawirch are among 32 villages that Syrian soldiers have already retaken during the past two months. But up ahead, the enemy is still there.
