Nov 7, 2014.Russia: Watch as navy patrol ship Admiral Essen is christened with champers A ceremony for the launch of the Russian Navys patrol ship Admiral Essen got underway at the Yantar Baltic shipyard in Kaliningrad Friday, with Champagne cracked on to the side of the boat to celebrate. As the second ship in the Project 11356 series, the Admiral Essen will be followed by another four frigates launched between now and 2016. The ships are made at an estimated cost of $530 million (€426 million) each, with a top speed of 30 knots (55.6 kmph) and a crew of 193. The Admiral Essen is armed with a Shtil-1 air defence system and eight 3M-54TE sizzler anti-ship missiles, along with torpedo tubes and an RBU-6000 mortar, among other armaments. Founded on July 8, 1945, the shipyard which built the Admiral Essen specialises in the construction of small and medium vessels for military and civil purposes. One-hundred-and-fifty-eight warships and more than 500 civil vessels have been built during its 69 years history. #Russia
