November 10, 1989, my dad, Joseph W. Colis Sr., went to his final reward. He was a fun man filled with love for everyone. He loved to tell stories, sing, dance, and he was a Star Trek fanatic. He called my 2 daughters Sweet Heart and Sugar Plum! My pet name was Sugar, and he always called my brother Daddy! I dont know where that came from but he always called Jay, Daddy! I can remember how he would complain when he had to answer the phone if my mom wasnt home to do it, but if it was one of my moms female friends, he would always put on the friendly voice and say, Well hi Doll! He was known for his laughter, and most of the grandkids have imitated it when they think of him. He would be so proud and happy to see all the kids that have been born into the family after his passing. He was a Navy Chief Hospital Corpsman who had 25 years in the military upon retirement. Being that he was a corpsman, he had been attached to the Marine Corps, as well. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and 3 tours in the Vietnam War. Every year, he always celebrated November 10th, as that was Marine Corps Birthday. He and my mom went to Marine Corps Ball every year. It was so ironic that he passed away on that very date. We all will never forget you daddy, and I know you are looking down on all of us from your home away from home. In his words that he said all the time, HAPPINESS IS A THING CALLED JOE!
