November 11, 2013 is a day we all should thank a veteran. Veterans Day 2013. There are still many WWII, Korean War, Vietnam and Mid East Veterans that deserve our utmost appreciation. My concern is that a number of these men and women heroes are slipping through the cracks. There is a food and clothing pantry located at Castle Point Veterans Administration off Rt 9D that disperse food to vets who, unfortunately, have nothing. Our military service personnel, the same ones who risked their lives for America, are forgotten heroes. The vets that come to the food pantry are only allowed to get food once a month due to the limited amount of available provisions. New Hackensack Reformed Church has been collecting non-perishable food for the Veterans Food Pantry and makes monthly deliveries there. The federal government has cut off all funding to the food pantry and they equally lost all private grants. The food pantry relies solely on food donations from the public. We welcome anyone to drop off NON-EXPIRED food to the church Mon-Fri from 9am - 3pm. A box is located right near the church office. We also accept gift cards from the local grocery stores and our Outreach Council, using the list of needed food from the pantry, will do the shopping for you. You may leave the gift cards with the church secretary during those hours. Some of these vets are homeless as well and live out of their cars. Please help support the Vets. If you need me to bring your donations to the church, give me a ring. I would be more than happy to help you. Thank you and God Bless the U.S. Military.
