November 11 Just wanted to update everyone on Rexs surgery and ask you to continue to remember him in your prayers. I stayed in Columbus last night with my cousin. When I came in to see him this morning, he was totally different than when I saw him after surgery. He went from joking with the nurses and everyone else yesterday to lying with his eyes closed and barely answering questions this morning. They informed me that his temp had been 103 in the night. It was down now, but they were very concerned about pneumonia. When he coughed, it sounded nasty. They gave him the typical clear plastic apparatus with the balls in it that you blow in or inhale into, and he was suppose to use it every hour. They gave him a plastic pickle that was suppose to help make him cough. He was rather out of it, and I doubt that he even remembered to use them except when the nurses came to remind him. And the swallow test: it took them until this afternoon for them to figure out that since it is Veterans Day, all the hospitals testing centers are closed. So he has to wait until tomorrow, even though his tongue and lips are dry and parched, and he cant even have a chip of ice!! He has a sponge to swab, thats it. Very frustrating! He was possibly going to be able to come home tomorrow, but I seriously doubt that will happen. Meantime, as much as I wanted to stay with him, especially while he is so miserable, I keep getting fevers in the evening, and two nights in Columbus, I even had a cough. I just hope I havent given him anything!! Today, I was so exhausted I wasnt sure I was going to be able to drive home. So we still greatly will appreciate your prayers!! Sylvia
