November 12, 2014 “Pathways Day” “Your Pathway to Adventure awaits you…” Rockport-Fulton, TX (November 4, 2014) – The grand opening for the Aransas Pathways Pavilion and Bridge will be held on Wednesday, November 12 at 10 a.m. It will take place at 2491 Hwy 35 North (Walmart entrance next to Tule Creek) in Rockport. Finishing touches are now being done on the project. The Aransas Pathways Steering Committee, and other volunteers have worked diligently on the (long awaited) project and it is now open for visitors and citizens alike. Pathways is pleased to announce the completion and grand opening of the pavilion and bridge at Tule Creek. This facility will function as the trailhead for Pathways eco-tourism projects in the Aransas County”, says Co-Chair De McLallan. The project has been a labor of love for many county residents. Tom Callan, also Co-Chair of the project says “More and more often we hear good things about Pathways from visitors and residents. It just goes to show what a great team of volunteers can accomplish. I appreciate every one of them”. The pavilion, called “Pathways Center “is to be the principal information center for all of the Aransas Pathways projects. These include: Birding; History; Kayaking; and Hiking and Biking Trails. “Pathways Center” houses informational kiosks with interpretive signage explaining each Aransas Pathway project, with an open space for meetings and events. There is also a deck for relaxing and observing Tule Creek, and the adjoining Shellcrete Birding and Nature site. The bridge connects the North and South sides of Tule Creek and the nature site. According to John Strothman, who is the Project Manager for Aransas Pathways, “After 38 years in the Construction Industry, this Pavilion and Bridge has given me more of a sense of pride than any other project than I have ever worked on”. To highlight the Grand Opening, an activity for each pathway project has been planned for the day. The Schedule is as follows: 10am – Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies for Pathways Center and Bridge 11am – Hike and Bike Demo at Tule Hike and Bike Trail (adjoining property). Join Dr. Earl Matthews and Rusty Day, Rockport City Councilman, as they guide you through both the West and East side of Tule Trails. 11am, 1:30 pm and 4pm - History Tour by Golf Cart (2 hour tour – contact Capt. Tommy Moore tmoore@rockportadventures or 1-877-892-4737 to schedule this event). 1pm – History Center for Aransas County 801 E Cedar Rockport - Open House with guided tours. 1:30pm – Wild Flower Walk – Join our birding and nature experts as they walk you through the beautiful Linda S. Castro Birding and Nature Sanctuary pointing out native plants and birds. Located at 4031 Hwy 35 N Fulton. 2:30 pm - Kayak Demo –– Local Kayaking Enthusiasts invite you to see and experience nature from a kayak on Copano Bay at Airport Road Kayak Site at the end of Airport road off of Highway 1781. All visitors and citizens are welcome and invited to the grand opening and urged to park in the Walmart parking lot. The public is also encouraged to take part in the other Pathways activities for the day. About Aransas Pathways… The Aransas Pathways projects are funded by the venue tax passed in 2010 or from grants from various organizations and individuals. The venue tax is collected through hotels, motels and rental property management companies and is paid by visitors to the county. There is no cost to property owners in the county. The purpose of these projects is to provide more things for visitors to do in our community, keeping “Heads in Beds”. The Aransas Pathways Steering Committee is responsible for coordinating and completing projects brought forth by the technical committees.
