November 13, 1976 - 38 Years Ago Today: Rod Stewart began an 8-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his single, Tonights The Night (Gonna Be Alright). This was Stewarts 12th chart entry on the chart and it became his 5th Top 40 and second No. 1 following 1971s commercial and critically-accaimed debut, Maggie May, which topped the Hot 100 for 5 weeks. Tonights The Night became the best-charted single of Stewarts career, not for just the most weeks at No. 1 for one of his 4 chart-toppers, but also remained on the chart for 23 weeks, which was the 3rd longest stay on the Hot 100 for the British singer/songwriter following his 25-week stay with 1988s My Heart Cant Tell You No and his 24-week residency with 1988s Forever Young. Coincidentally, those two singles charted back-to-back with Forever Young peaking at No. 12 and My Heart Cant Tell You No peaking at No. 4. Rod Stewart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Original picture sleeve posted below on this music page.
