November 18th Monday - Are you in the wilderness? Psalm 78:52 But made His own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. In a wilderness its a struggle to move, water is scarce, and you plod on with no end in sight. Your average Duke of Edinburgh trip is a handy Scriptural metaphor for spiritually miserable times. Yet you can have a wilderness experience anywhere: at a graveside, at the Job Centre, or in a particularly messy breakup. In a wilderness you can feel like an actor whos forgotten the right lines. A Christian should act in a certain way, speak in a certain way, pray in a certain way... but I just cant do it right now! But its there, as youre standing frozen on-stage, that God reminds you from the prompters box: Remember Me. Remember what Ive done in the past. Remember how Ive dealt with you. Hasnt it all been for your good? After clinging to His Father in a doubly-real wilderness, Jesus burst back out of the desert clothed in the power of Gods Spirit, ready to launch His power onto an unsuspecting world. And God can turn your life around like that too. He...guided them in the wilderness...He led them on safely, so that they did not fear... (Psalm 78:52-53). If your life is a whole lot of wild nothingness right now,stand on His promise: that if you love God, He will work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). So, remember Gods Word in the sidelines of your life (this could be especially in the moments when youre feeling most low) and He will give you strength (Psalm 119:28)
