November 19 is the feast day of Saint Elisabeth of Hungary, known for her selfless devotion to the poor. Elisabeth was born in Hungary around 1207 and died at Marburg, Hesse, November 17, 1231. When Elisabeths husband, King Ludwig, died of fever on his way to the Sixth Crusade, Elisabeth was driven out of the castle, along with her children, by her in-laws who did not appreciate her efforts on behalf of the poor. Elisabeth wandered about, doing good deeds and ministering to the sick and unfortunate. She received the Third Order of Saint Francis and was canonized after reports of healings obtained by those who prayed at her gravesite. Composer Franz Liszt, a fellow Hungarian, devoted his oratorio The Legend of Saint Elisabeth to her. It is a largely neglected masterpiece in the field of sacred oratorio, and it accomplished in that genre an effect similar to that of Wagners Parsifal in the field of music drama. https://youtube/watch?v=PAGu7GiAG1c
