November 2 - All Souls Day - The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed Todays Readings: Wisdom 3:1-9; Psalm 23:1-6; Romans 5:5-11; John 6:37-40 “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.” It is good for us to celebrate the Faithful Departed who have completed their sojourn on earth and have faced Jesus to answer the question “What did you do with all of the gifts that God gave you to use for your own benefit and for the benefit of others?” They are a source of great inspiration to us and provide an example of how to meet the challenge of living a life in imitation of Jesus Christ. They are a reminder to us that we do not need to be perfect to become a saint but that when we fail to be all that God created us to be, we can acknowledge our failure and receive forgiveness and grace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. That raises the question, Have we availed ourselves of the great gift of the Sacrament of Forgiveness and Reconciliation? If we have not done so recently or as often as we should, now is a good time. The first step to being a good steward of all that God has given us is to be a good steward of our soul.
