November 20- Prepare and Compete like an Athlete! Verse- ….Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the training and preparation required. 2 Timothy 2:5 After telling Timothy to endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, Paul then switches to a new illustration so he can make another important point (2 Timothy 2:5). Paul is explaining to Timothy how he should face the difficulties that are ahead of him at that moment. Yesterday we talked about suffering to be a “good soldier of Christ”. Now we are to be committed as an athlete is committed to their sport. There are two major points in this verse: 1. Anyone can compete in the “sport” of faith 2. If any desires to be a successful competitor, they better put in the proper preparation and training required to make them win. Idle hands are a Devil’s workshop. Winners are those who have trained and prepared themselves. He was telling Timothy, “rather than moan and gripe, you need to focus on what you can do with the opportunities God has given you”. What battle are you facing today? Maybe it is sharing your faith to a coworker, sacrificing your finances so you can give more, taking away negative influences or anything else. Today I want you to work hard in preparing for the battle that is ahead of you. That way when God calls you to fight the good fight you are ready and prepared! Questions- 1. What situations are you facing right now that you could use to flex your spiritual muscles and grow stronger in your walk with the Lord? 2. Rather than moan and complain about how hard thing have become in your life, is it time for you to change the way you are thinking? If you want to live like a professional and not an amateur in the Kingdom of God, isn’t it time for you to see all your challenges as opportunities to exercise your faith? 3. Rather than let this present circumstances pass without providing you any benefit in life, don’t you agree that you need to view it as an opportunity to train and prepare for the future? Remember, if you can pass this test, you can pass any test!
