November 25, 2014 PRESS RELEASE Re: CLARIFICATION ON THE PLAYERS’ SALARIES AND FALSE MEDIA REPORTS Recently, the club has found itself wrongly reported on in various media circles. Many media houses have reported about a purpoted ‘players’ strike’ of SC Villa players. These reports mostly came out last week in the build-up to the Kira Young game played on Friday. Actually, some said the match would not go on, but to their surprise and shame, the match went on and there was no player absent! Reason for the so-called strike? ‘Unpaid salaries’. In these reports, it was said that our players have not been paid for four months. We assume that you are aware that SC Villa has been, and still is, undergoing gradual restructuring. This has been the case since the start of the season. And we all know that restructuring is change itself, and it comes with a number of changes; the players’ salaries inclusive. At the start of the season, players’ monthly salaries were extremely high and beyond what the club could manage in the long run. So, we decided to review that bill to come out with what we could manage to pay the players. We tabled the new salary structure to the players and majority accepted it, that’s why up to now, the reported ‘strike’ has not seen the light of the day. And we are still negotiating with those who haven’t accepted it yet. They are still consulting and making up their minds. So far, the signs are good because they are training normally and playing matches. So, there is not a thing like a players’ strike at Villa Park. However, the constant false and misguided reporting by some media circles is hurtful to the club. Some media practitctioners have taken it upon themselves to blow the whole thing out of proportion and create a hill out of an anthill. Therefore, it’s our prayer and request that the press reports facts based on the club’s official positon on such sensitive matters. We have officials who can talk to you, why not call them? Finally, to put the record straight, VILLA IS NOT BROKE, but rather restructuring. Swaib Raul Kanyike, Public Relations Officer.
